Client Bill of Rights

As a client at Vanier Children's Services, we feel it is important that you are aware of your rights.

You have the right to:

  • be respected and treated fairly, no matter your race, sex, culture, religion, mental or physical abilities, class or economic position, sexual orientation, or diagnosis
  • be heard and have your needs, wishes, values, beliefs and experiences as a parent/guardian respected
  • be informed about the possible risks and benefits of all treatment options, including anticipated outcomes
  • have the limits of confidentiality explained to you in a way you can understand
  • be given the option to consent or to decline to participate in research that Vanier may be involved in and to know if you decline, this will not affect your child's involvement in services
  • be consulted and express your views, according to your abilities, about important decisions that affect you and your child
  • be active in all treatment programming for you and your child and your family
  • withdraw consent for treatment at any time
  • have informatin provided to you in a way that you can understand
  • as custodial parent, to receive a copy of all reports created about your child and your family
  • ask about information and other resources in the community that could help your child and family
  • receive guidance and encouragement to maitain your cultural heritage
  • have an interpreter if language keeps you from becoming involved in your child's treatment program
  • to receive quality service from qualified professionals and be informed of their credentials
  • know that your personal information (paper and electronic) will be kept secure and confidential
  • restrict specific Vanier employees from access to your confidential information
  • be informed of the Vanier complaint procedure and to ask questions and voice concerns through the complaint procedure
