Mary Heisz

Mary Heisz is the kind of person every non-profit wants as a member of its board of directors. She's passionate, dedicated, accomplished and knowledgeable.  mary joined our Board of Directors in 2000.

Mary became familiar with children's mental health issues in 1984, but several years later it touched her life in a personal way when her son, Josh was diagnosed with a learning disability. She found herself advocating for special services within his school.

"That experience made me realize how you have to stand up for your kids in the school system. And I had the means to do it, and to pay for special services. But what if you don't? Where do those people turn?" That's how she knew she had chosen the right agency in which to invest her talents and passion.

Mary feels strongly she has become a better parent because of her association with WAYS and Vanier Children's Services. Witnessing the tremendous challenges of other parents has given her tools for better parenting and an invaluable perspective on the need to advocate strongly for children's mental health issues.
