Live-In Treatment

Families accessing Intensive Services at Vanier become part of a treatment team that includes (as needed) child and youth counseling, family therapy, psychiatry, psychology, nursing, special education, and other clinical supports.

Referrals to Vanier are through Community Services. Learn about the referral process by contacting the London Community Services Coordination Network (CSCN) office to speak with a Children’s Services Intake Worker.  An Access Package is completed to help everyone learn about the family and develop ideas on how best to help. Children assessed as meeting the eligibility for intensive services at CSCN are offered free services. Vanier also offers fee-for-service treatment placements for child welfare agencies and single-point access bodies across Southwestern Ontario.

Vanier has offered live-in treatment since 1965. Such treatment is designed to reduce the severity of mental health challenges, strengthen coping and resilience, and improve functioning at home, school, and in the community. The goal is always to work with the family to transition the child home. There are three phases of live-in treatment;

• The Engagement Phase: Involves family therapy to map out treatment goals. Sometimes, that resolves the issue, and an admission is not needed;
• Residential Phase: Children live at Vanier while maintaining contact with family members. Some children attend Vanier's on-campus school.
• Transition Phase: Supports the child in moving home full-time.
